This very old form of construction has a number of advantages. Dry stone walling is a practical form of boundary with an inherent conservation and heritage value.  As seen in the Kentucky Bluegrass region they enhance the landscape, will outlast a wire fence many times over, are fire proof, and can be built in virtually any situation from steep slopes to wetland ground.
